Asian Hornet
All beekeepers and members of the public are asked to be vigilant for sightings of the Asian Hornet (vespa velutina) which is a non-native invasive species which poses a significant risk to honey bees, bumble bees and other pollinating insects.
If you think you have seen one, then be sure to take photographs or video and compare your images with those on the National Bee Unit’s Identification Sheet.
It is important that all confirmed sightings are reported immediately via e-mail to alertnonnative@ceh.ac.uk or by using the Asian Hornet phone app. Further information is set out on the BBKA website.
