Meetings and Events 2021
Tuesday 5 January 2021 – The Annual General Meeting was held at 7:30pm via Zoom. The meeting was followed by a presentation by Dr Helen Hill on “Winter Sun for Bees”. Thirty members attended and the draft Minutes of the AGM are available here.
Saturday 16 January 2021 – The BBKA Annual Delegates Meeting (ADM) was held via Zoom. Paul Mingard repesented Hexham BKA as our nominated Delegate.
Tuesday 2 February 2021 – A virtual “Ask the Panel” session was held at 7:30pm via Zoom. The panel comprised – Ian Robinson, Judith Stewart, Martyn Farrer and Bill Hunter with Jane Hughes and Neill Wylie asking the questions. Thirty-three beekeepers participated and a recording is available here.
Tuesday 2 March 2021 – An Open Meeting was held at 7:30pm via Zoom to provide an insight into “Different types of Bee Hive”. Over 40 beekeepers from local Associations tuned in ‘live’ and a recording of the presentation is available here.
Tuesday 6 April 2021 – An Open Meeting was held at 7:30pm via Zoom on the topic of “Swarm Management”. Over 60 beekeepers from local Associations tuned in ‘live’ and a recording of the presentation is available here.
Wednesday 28 April 2021 – An Introductory Session for Beginners was held via Zoom. Sue Robinson described the arrangements for the Beginners Sessions to be held over the summer months. Judith Stewart explained the working of the Bee Mart as an ideal place to source your first colony of local bees. A recording of the session is available here.
Tuesday 4 May 2021 – An Open Meeting was held at 7:30pm via Zoom where Ian Robinson presented on the “Challenges in living with varroa”. Over 40 beekeepers from local Associations tuned in ‘live’ and a recording of the presentation is available here.
Tuesday 6 July 2021 – An Open Meeting was held at 7:30pm via Zoom when James Gardner, Allergy Nurse Consultant from the RVI, spoke about “Immunotherapy for Bee Venom”. A recording of the session is available here.
Sunday 12 September 2021 – An Open Apiary Meeting was held at 2:00pm despite the rainy weather. Sue & Ian Robinson provided a wealth of advice on ‘Preparing Bees for Winter’.
Tuesday 05 October 2021 – The 2021 Rachael Lowther Lecture was delivered by Jilly Halliday from Tresco via Zoom starting at 7:30pm. More than 30 beekeepers tuned in to learn about ‘‘Jilly’s Scilly Bees’’ and the various initiatives she is pursuing to support and improve beekeeping in the Scilly Isles. Tuesday 02 November 2021 – An Open Meeting was held via Zoom starting at 7:30pm. Dorian Pritchard presented on the subject of ‘Northumberland Native Bees’ Five Strategy Defence against Varroa Mites’. Up to 50 local beekeepers participated to hear Dorian’s presentation – a recording of which is available here. His talk was supplemented by questions and a report on his work with the Redesdale Conservation Project – a recording of the second part is available here.
Tuesday 07 December 2021 – An Open Meeting was held via Zoom starting at 7:30pm which was attended by more than 20 members and partners. Neill Wylie explained ‘How to pay your annual fees – painlessly‘ – recording available here. Then Sue Robinson provided an important update on ‘Recent Developments at our Teaching Apiary‘ – recording available here. Finally Ian Robinson hosted the ‘2021 Xmas Quiz‘ – recording available here.
