Sunday 1st October 2017 – Rachel Lowther Lecture – was delivered at Wall Village Hall by Rinke Vinkenoog from Northumbria University.

Sunday 3rd September 2017 – Open Apiary Meeting was held at the Wylam apiary on the theme of ‘Preparing the Bees for Winter’.

Sunday 23rd July 2017Open Apiary Meeting was held at Jane and Ivan Swaile’s apiary at Falstone, Kielder including a bee demonstration by Willie Robson. Proceeds in aid of Tynedale Hospice at Home. Further details are available here.

Tuesday 11th July – Thursday 13 July 2017Great Yorkshire Show held in Harrogate. Further details available from the GYS website.

Sunday 9th July 2017Beginners’ Session #6 was held between 2:00pm and 4:00pm at the Wylam apiary.

Sunday 2nd July 2017Open Apiary Meeting was held at Philip Latham’s apiary near Riding Mill between 2:00pm and 4:00pm on the theme of Preparing the Bees for the Heather.

Sunday 25th June 2017 – Cherryburn Bee Fest took place between 11:00 and 15:30 and over 500 people enjoyed a fun day out in glorious sunshine.

Sunday 11th June 2017Open Apiary Meeting was held between 2:00pm and 4:00pm at the Wylam apiary. This meeting focused on various Swarm Control techniques and their practical application to the colonies in the apiary.

Monday 29th May 2017 – Northumberland County Show – Hexham Beekeepers is taking a sabatical this year and will not be present at this year’s show. However, we plan to return in 2018.

Sunday 7th May 2017Open Apiary Meeting was held between 2:00pm and 4:00pm at the Wylam apiary. The initial meeting focused on First Inspections of the colonies in the apiary although it proved too cold to disturb the bees.

Saturday 8 April 2017 – BBKA Basic Assessment – Sue Robinson led the second of two Revision Sessions at Wall Village Hall between 2:00pm and 4:00pm.

Tuesday 4 April 2017HBKA Open Meeting was held at 7:30pm at Hexham Cricket Club, Hexham NE46 3EW. Our Chairman, Philip Latham, introduced some vintage film footage recently discovered in Colin Weightman’s archive showing local beekeeping in the ’40s.

Sunday 5th March 2017A “Bee Improvement for All” day was held in Wall Village Hall in conjunction with the Bee Improvement and Bee Breeders Association (BIBBA). This is one of a number that BIBBA are staging in 2017 throughout the U.K. on a regional basis. Further information is available here.

Friday 3rd March 2017HBKA Open Meeting was held at 7:30pm at Hexham Community Centre, Gilesgate, Hexham , ​NE46 3NP.  Roger Patterson gave a talk entitled “The Patterson unit – a flexible approach to keeping honey producing colonies productive”. Further information is available here.
